PEOPLE

PEOPLE

The PEOPLE page will bring you real stories and testimonies of real people - people whom the Lord has touched in special and miraculous ways, and people He has touched in plain old, regular ways. Our life in Him is a miracle enough. We don't need more. However, every once in a while, He reaches down to specially bless us or to show the real power behind His name. The people featured on these pages will tell you their stories and will share their lives.
Sit back, read, and rejoice, my friends.
He is ALIVE and working in the lives of real people TODAY.

June Carter Cash
The Carpenter's Lady

How June Carter Cash's faith in God impacted others was a common thread that ran through the funeral service in her honor on May 18, 2003. "A lot of great things will be said about June today, but the greatest thing that can be said about her and about anyone is that they have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ," said Glenn Weekley, pastor of First Baptist Hendersonville, where Cash was a member. Here is the beautiful poem,
"HIGH FLIGHT,"
written by John Gillespie Magee, Jr., in 1941. It is set to music, and I remember watching it when it was played as the midnight closing feature on one of our national TV channels. Pity it isn't still there. The original copy of the poem, an anthem for aviators around the world, is in the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. Don't miss this lovely work at High Flight

Chuck Colson
The Hatchet Man

Almost 25 years ago, Charles W. Colson was not thinking about reaching out to prison inmates or reforming the U.S. penal system.
In fact, this aide to president Richard Nixon was "incapable of humanitarian thought," according to the media of the mid-1970s.
Colson was known as the White House "hatchet man," a man feared by even the most powerful politicos during his four years of service to President Nixon.
When news of Colson's conversion to Christianity leaked to the press in 1973, the Boston Globe reported, "If Mr. Colson can repent of his sins, there just has to be hope for everybody."

Johnny Cash
The Man In Black

In the world of popular music, one generally becomes a “legend” only in death—as if death accomplishes for a musician all that he was unable to do for himself in life. But Johnny Cash’s death at seventy-one on September 12, 2003 was decidedly un-legend-like: silent, slow, and unspectacular. Yet “legend” seems, if anything, not big enough a word to describe Johnny Cash.

Walt Disney
It Was All Started
By A Mouse

"My own concept of prayer is not a plea for special favors, nor as a quick palliation for wrongs knowingly committed. A prayer... not only is supplication for strength and guidance, but also becomes an affirmation of life and thus a reverent praise of God."
Recognize the quote? It's not from a famous theologian or church father--it's Walt Disney! Read this inspiring article about Walt Disney and the role his Christian faith played in his life and his famous animated works.

Billy Graham
Evangelist to the World

William Franklin Graham, Jr., known as Billy Graham to most of the world, was born on November 7, 1918. In 1934, evangelist Mordecai Fowler Ham began preaching at a series of revival meetings in Charlotte. Billy attended the meetings and was led, while listening to Ham's preaching, which heightened Graham's conviction of his own sin, to commit his life to Christ.

In the fall of 1936, the young man began attending the fundamentalist school, Bob Jones College, in Cleveland, Tennessee. He had begun to consider the possibility of becoming some kind of Christian worker. However, he could not adjust to campus life at Bob Jones and left after a few months

So began the life of ministry of the man who would preach God's Word to kings and presidents and "regular" people around the world. Read his story at

Jimmy Stewart
"It's a Wonderful Life"

"Frank Capra was shooting a long shot of me slumped in despair. In agony I raised my eyes and, following the script, pled, "God ... God ... Dear Father in heaven, I'm not a praying man, but if You're up there and You can hear me, show me the way. I'm at the end of my rope. Show me the way, God ..."

As I said those words, I felt the loneliness, the hopelessness of people who had nowhere to turn, and my eyes filled with tears. I broke down sobbing. This was not planned at all, but the power of that prayer, the realization that our Father in heaven is there to help the hopeless, had reduced me to tears."

On July 2, 1997, a man much beloved passed into the arms of his God - and we lost a treasure. Read his story in "Jimmy Stewart: A Tribute" and then his own words describing his favorite film, "It's a Wonderful Life."
